YESTERDAY AND TODAY
In 1861, an Oblate priest, Father Fourquet, established a mission on the present site. During the mid

community amalgamated with the old district of Mission to form the present municipality. The District
of Mission has two main neighbourhoods, Mission and Hatzic, and four smaller neighbourhoods:
Steelhead, Stave Falls, Silverdale, and Ruskin.
Today, Mission’s economy is based on forestry and the manufacturing of the wood products. Agriculture
also supports the economy especially in the dairying, fruit and vegetable growing.
