Vancouver’s weirdest homes to move into
A change of scene and routine is one of the main reasons why people consider a new home. So in this spirit, we decided to take a look at some of the most out-of-the ordinary places to move into in the Greater Vancouver area. Moving into any of these joints will definitely shake things up.
Finding a new home on the water (notice how we didn’t say ‘by’ the water)
People looking for beautiful views often consider waterfront properties as ideal places to move into. But what if you could take it a step further and live on the water itself? Look no further than a floating house — yes, a house that literally floats on the water just like a boat. There are several of these homes for sale in the Greater Vancouver area, which you can find fairly easily with a Google search. However, perhaps one of the most desirable deals is the floating house in the Coal Harbour area. The 497-square-foot joint is selling for $329,000, which can be great for a bachelor who’s looking to live the posh neighbourhood. Considering that the price for a condo in the area can be between $600,000 and $2 million, it’s not a bad deal if you’re okay with living in a space with a single bedroom and bathroom. Check it out at B19-1525 Coal Harbour Quay. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a larger, more affordable option, have a look at this two-bedroom, double-bathroom floating home in Ladner, which is selling at $159,900. You can find it at 10 – 3871 River Road.
The Electric Owl: If music is your thing, this is your place to move into
This bar is one of the hot spots for local and touring bands stopping in Vancouver. And while you can’t move into the bar itself — though some people would probably be into that — there are 42 rooms available directly above the music venue. People looking for an apartment here can expect rent to be $400 to $750 a month. And yes, it can get noisy, but if you want first dibs on much of the live music happening in Vancouver, this is one of the best places to move into. People interested in Vancouver history will also have plenty to find, as this space was born out of the old Hotel American, which was built in 1907.
Bringing in the star power
The Vancouver area has often been called Hollywood North, because film crews have frequently shot here. And now, for about $5.9 million, you can literally find a new home on a former movie set. Enter the luxurious property on 930 Beachview Drive in North Vancouver, which is described by RE/MAX Masters Realty as a home that has been featured in numerous movies and TV shows. Furthermore, the company also says it has housed movie stars and celebrities.
In a nutshell…
So there you have it! If you’re looking for a new place to move into that will give you a break from the ordinary, these suggestions are a good place to start. And remember that housing listings change all the time, so keep searching! You never know what kind of gems you might find.
